Scripture Master List: David on Praise and Worship

roni* marks pivotal examples. New Living Translation

Area 1: David proclaims his intention to praise God, especially in a tough situation. Psalms of all praise are not included.

5:7 Because of your unfailing love, I can enter your house;
I will worship at your Temple with deepest awe.

7:17 I will thank the LORD because he is just;
I will sing praise to the name of the LORD Most High.

13:5-6 But I trust in your unfailing love.
I will rejoice because you have rescued me.
I will sing to the LORD
because he is good to me.

18:49-50 For this, O LORD, I will praise you among the nations;
I will sing praises to your name.
You give great victories to your king;
you show unfailing love to your anointed,
to David and all his descendants forever.

22I will proclaim your name to my brothers and sisters.
I will praise you among your assembled people.
25I will praise you in the great assembly.
I will fulfil my vows in the presence of those who worship you.

26:12 Now I stand on solid ground,
and I will publicly praise the LORD.

*28:6-7 Praise the LORD!
For he has heard my cry for mercy.
The LORD is my strength and shield.
I trust him with all my heart.
He helps me, and my heart is filled with joy.
I burst out in songs of thanksgiving.

*31:7 I will be glad and rejoice in your unfailing love,
for you have seen my troubles,
and you care about the anguish of my soul.

35:9,10,28 Then I will rejoice in the LORD.
I will be glad because he rescues me.
With every bone in my body I will praise him:
“LORD, who can compare with you?
Who else rescues the helpless from the strong?
Who else protects the helpless and poor from those who rob them?”
28Then I will proclaim your justice,
and I will praise you all day long.

*42:8 But each day the LORD pours his unfailing love upon me,
and through each night I sing his songs,
praying to God who gives me life.

54:6 I will sacrifice a voluntary offering to you;
I will praise your name, O LORD,
for it is good.

52:9 I will praise you forever, O God,
for what you have done.
I will trust in your good name
in the presence of your faithful people.

*57:7-8 My heart is confident in you, O God;
my heart is confident.
No wonder I can sing your praises!
Wake up, my heart!
Wake up, O lyre and harp!
I will wake the dawn with my song.

*59:16 But as for me, I will sing about your power.
Each morning I will sing with joy about your unfailing love.
For you have been my refuge,
a place of safety when I am in distress.

61:8 8Then I will sing praises to your name forever
as I fulfil my vows each day.

63:11 But the king will rejoice in God.
All who trust in him will praise him,
while liars will be silenced.

69:30-31 Then I will praise God’s name with singing,
and I will honour him with thanksgiving.
For this will please the LORD more than sacrificing cattle,
more than presenting a bull with its horns and hooves.

*71:14-16 But I will keep on hoping for your help;
I will praise you more and more.
I will tell everyone about your righteousness.
All day long I will proclaim your saving power,
though I am not skilled with words.
I will praise your mighty deeds, O Sovereign LORD.
I will tell everyone that you alone are just.

71:22 Then I will praise you with music on the harp,
because you are faithful to your promises, O my God.
I will sing praises to you with a lyre,
O Holy One of Israel.
23 I will shout for joy and sing your praises,
for you have ransomed me.
24 I will tell about your righteous deeds
all day long,
for everyone who tried to hurt me
has been shamed and humiliated.

86:12-13 With all my heart I will praise you, O Lord my God.
I will give glory to your name forever,
for your love for me is very great.
You have rescued me from the depths of death.

109:30-31 But I will give repeated thanks to the LORD,
praising him to everyone.
For he stands beside the needy,
ready to save them from those who condemn them.

Area 2: Within the body of the Psalms, there are many exclamations of praise. A few include:

28:6                                                       35:10

21:1-2                                                   57:7-11

24:8                                                       63:2-8

31:19-21 How great is the goodness
you have stored up for those who fear you.
You lavish it on those who come to you for protection,
blessing them before the watching world.
You hide them in the shelter of your presence,
safe from those who conspire against them.
You shelter them in your presence,
far from accusing tongues.
Praise the LORD,
for he has shown me the wonders of his unfailing love.
He kept me safe when my city was under attack.

Psalm 30:11-12 You have turned my mourning into joyful dancing.
You have taken away my clothes of mourning and clothed me with joy,
that I might sing praises to you and not be silent.
O LORD my God, I will give you thanks forever!

Area 3: David frequently encourages others to shout for joy and praise the Lord. Here are some examples.

32:10-11 Many sorrows come to the wicked,
but unfailing love surrounds those who trust the LORD.
So rejoice in the LORD and be glad, all you who obey him!
Shout for joy, all you whose hearts are pure!

33:1-5 Let the godly sing for joy to the LORD;
it is fitting for the pure to praise him.
Praise the LORD with melodies on the lyre;
make music for him on the ten-stringed harp.
Sing a new song of praise to him;
play skillfully on the harp, and sing with joy.
For the word of the LORD holds true,
and we can trust everything he does.
He loves whatever is just and good;
the unfailing love of the LORD fills the earth.

29:1-2 Honour the LORD, you heavenly beings; (Hebrew: you sons of God.)
honour the LORD for his glory and strength.
Honour the LORD for the glory of his name.
Worship the LORD in the splendour of his holiness.

66:1-4 Shout joyful praises to God, all the earth!
Sing about the glory of his name!
Tell the world how glorious he is.
Say to God, “How awesome are your deeds!
Your enemies cringe before your mighty power.
Everything on earth will worship you;
they will sing your praises,
shouting your name in glorious songs.”
